Full time – permanent position

This is a newly created role following the planned departure of the Estates Bursar in December 2020 and will involve working closely with and assisting the Bursar in the smooth and efficient operation of the school.  Specific responsibilities will include the development and condition of the school estate, management of contracts and for the line management of the Estates, Grounds and Maintenance teams.

Other duties of the Deputy Bursar will include:

  • Assisting with strategic planning for major infrastructure projects and overseeing all minor projects
  • Managing the condition of all site infrastructure through a long-term plan, 5-year condition survey and PPM programme and holding appropriate site plans for buildings and services
  • Ensuring arrangements are in place to enable emergency repairs to heating, electricity and water supplies as well as security and fire safety systems throughout the year
  • Acting as the school’s utilities management officer and ensuring the energy and water consumption is carefully monitored and minimised, while best price is obtained for the purchase of utilities
  • Managing insurances, liaising with the appropriate brokers to secure cover and managing claims
  • Managing contracts related to cleaning, infrastructure and estates equipment (gates, fire alarms, etc.)
  • Managing rates and council tax arrangements
  • Managing the use and condition of the sports grounds, including those let by the school
  • Leading on staff accommodation matters and managing moves
  • Exercising broad trouble shooting responsibilities
  • Managing appropriate budgets and inputting to the annual budget process
  • Managing staff, including undertaking annual appraisals, performance management and training requirements, with advice from the HR Director
  • Promoting the school’s environmental and sustainability credentials and practices
  • Managing procurement across departments to ensure best value for goods and services
  • Overseeing implementation of the risk register mitigating actions
  • Attending meetings and school events including occasional evenings and weekends

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Significant experience in the management of major infrastructure projects
  • Substantial experience of leading and managing a large and complex estate.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to resolve difficult situations, implement change and foster excellent working relationships
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Administrative and financial abilities including experience of compiling and monitoring budgets
  • A flexible and adaptive approach to work with the willingness to oversee 24-hour callout arrangements and to attend site in cases of irregularity
  • Experience of working in an Educational Environment is highly desirable
  • A relevant qualification in building surveying or a related area is desirable

Our client, a prestigious independent school and sixth form in Hertfordshire, are currently looking for a Senior IT Services Technician to join their existing ICT Team on a permanent basis. Working under the guidance of the Head of IT, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the ICT network and systems, ensuring the ongoing operation is maintained to support the requirements of the school.

The postholder will also be required to provide support to users both onsite and remotely, proactively manage the school servers, assist in the development of strategic plans on the delivery of IT Systems and infrastructure, lead the ICT support staff during the absence of the Head of ICT, as well as deliver whole college training on new systems when required.

The ideal candidate will be articulate and enthusiastic, technically proficient and highly motivated to support the school to ensure the best outcome for teaching and learning. You should also have experience working within a relevant position in ICT, preferably within the Education sector.
